Tata Aria India headlampTata Motors has notified the media that the Tata Aria Pure LX is officially launched at 9.95 lakhs (ex-showroom Bengaluru) through a press release on Monday.

Despite bearing features found in cars of higher segments and assuming the role of the company's flagship product in all respects, the Aria has been received poorly and is a problem child for Tata Motors. The comparable Mahindra XUV500 and the Toyota Innova have never been unsettled or distracted by the Aria's presence.

The Aria Pure LX has seats for 7 people, flat folding second and third row seats, dual AC with pillar mounted air vents, keyless entry with a remote integrated key, dual barrel headlights, four disc brakes, etc.

Compared to higher variants, the Aria Pure LX misses out on ABS & EBD, Airbags and ESP. Convenience features such as Bluetooth telephony, Cruise control, Reverse guide and height adjustable driver seat have been omitted, while rain sensing wipers and electrically retractable mirrors are among the other deletions in the cost-down Aria variant.

The mechanical aspect is unperturbed of the austerity measures in the cabin, featuring the proven 2.2L Dicor engine that puts out 140 PS power and 320 Nm torque, but with a single mass flywheel.

Can this repositioning exercise, that pitches the Aria as a direct rival to the Toyota Innova, bring additional numbers for Tata Motors?
