Ford EcoSport has been in our focus for almost an year now and the compact SUV from Ford is still some time away from its launch.
The test mules of the EcoSport have been roaming the streets of Chennai more liberally in the recent days. Our ardent reader Mr. Vinod caught one such test mule at the Vikravandi toll gate on NH-45 near Chennai.
Vinod said that the model spotted was a mid level petrol variant. As we all know, the compact SUV will have a 1.5 litre petrol engine which is borrowed from the Fiesta and the technology packed 1.0 litre Ecoboost turbo petrol engine.
The diesel motor will be the 1.5 litre TCDI which powers the Fiesta. The transmission options are a 5-speed manual and a PowerShift dual clutch automatic transmission which is exclusive to the petrol model.
Ford India has already made the prospective customers wait longer and there will be further disappointment if the company decides not to offer the diesel engine at the time of the launch. The last two launches - Figo and Fiesta - had both options from Day 1, and this habit must be observed on the upcoming EcoSport as well.
