Maruti has launched a limited edition version of their Maruti A-Star called the Aktiv.
The Maruti A-Star which was targeted at young car buyers enjoys more popularity in export markets than in India. Maruti's own WagonR comes in as a more spacious option in the segment and it partially cannibalizes the sales of A-Star in India.
In order to pump in some appeal into the hatchback which never saw any major change in its four years of existence apart from the introduction of an automatic gearbox, Maruti has launched a limited edition model called the Aktiv.
The Aktiv limited edition version comes out as a purely cosmetic attempt. The exterior of the car gets decals on side body, roof, front and the rear. The ORVMs, rear spoiler, fog lamp enclosures and a part of the bumper are finished in red color and there is Aktiv logo at the rear. And the B pillars are blacked out.
On the inside, the car gets new white and red upholstery to match the exterior color, steering wheel cover, floor mats, rear parcel tray, protective door sills and keyless entry system.
There is no mechanical change whatsoever and the car continues to use the 67 PS 1L K10B petrol motor paired to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
The limited edition Maruti A-Star Aktiv is available in VXi and VXi AT variants and is priced at a premium of Rs. 14,990 over the regular version. MSIL hasn't mentioned about the number of units to be made.
