Mercedes should be given the credit of inventing the four door coupe segment with the Mercedes CLS and the three pointed star is ready with a cheaper four door coupe, the Mercedes CLA Class, for 2013.
The Mercedes CLA is an affordable coupe style sedan which is based on the MFA (Modular Front wheel Architecture). In simpler words, the CLA is the sedan version of the A Class which just raked up a record number of bookings in Europe.
Seen here are the spyshots of the dynamic looking sedan which was photographed by the Carscoop.blogspot.com reader Mr. Andor I.
The test mule was busted while testing near Budapest, Hungary. It's to be noted that Mercedes has inaugurated a € 800 million Euro factory in the city of Kecskemet near Hungary in March this year. The facility, apart from manufacturing the B Class, will also build the CLA sedan.
The front fascia of the CLA is similar to the A Class. The striking design feature of the compact sedan is the swooping roof line which blends nicely with the stubby boot. The profile and rear of the car earns it the nickname 'baby CLS'.
The Mercedes CLA Class will be powered by the same set of petrol and diesel engines as the A Class including the AMG spec 2.0 turbo petrol which pumps out 350 bhp.
The youthful sedan is expected to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2013 before going on sale at the end of 2013.
Yes, the compact sedan is coming to India, evaluations are underway, but we're not sure when. 2013 will be the year of the A Class, and perhaps in 2014 we'll see the CLA landing in India, followed by the GLA SUV in 2015. The CLA should be priced at 20-25 lakh rupees.
