Mahindra has resorted to a phased approach with the launch of Ssangyong Rexton in India.

The premium SUV was initially launched in Mumbai and New Delhi and it's set to be made available across the country step by step. We spotted a brand new unregistered Ssangyong Rexton in Chennai yesterday but when contacted the dealership, we learnt that the bookings and deliveries have not commenced yet.
According to the source who is familiar with the proceedings, the Ssangyong Rexton will be launched in Chennai on November 20th and the bookings will start from the day of the launch. Mahindra will slowly expand the presence of Ssangyong Rexton into other cities.
The Ssangyong Rexton will be sold through Mahindra's existing outlets which will make use of specially trained sales and service personnel. The team will handle only the South Korean brand to ensure that the dealership experience matches the requirements of the premium segment customers.
The Rexton is available in two variants - RX-5 which has a power output of 162 bhp and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and RX-7 which develops 184 bhp and is married to a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Both variants use the same 2.7 litre five cylinder diesel engine but in different states of tune.

The prices start from 17.67 lakhs in Mumbai and Rs.17.75 lakhs in Delhi (both ex-showroom), and the Ssangyong Rexton will compete against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner.
