We brought you the speculative variants of the Hyundai HB20 earlier this month out of which the Hyundai HB20X had already become a reality at Sao Paulo Motor Show.
Now the sedan is also set for the realization.
Slapping a boot onto a promising hatchback not only works for India but also in Brazil whose car buying mass think almost like we people do.
After the Toyota Etios twins, Hyundai has determined to take this strategy to Brazil with the recently launched HB20. The HB20 hatchback is basically a low cost car based on the i20 platform designed specifically for Brazil.
Hyundai thinks that sticking a boot to a good looking and well received hatchback will help them consolidate their position in the Brazilian market. According to the rendering of the sedan by Car and Driver Brasil, it looks promising.
The HB20 sedan doesn't really look like a mere boot slapping operation that it actually is, but more like a sedan that is styled from the scratch. The Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy is nicely taken forward to the boot, but we can't pass judgements before seeing an actual example.
The sedan will employ the same set of flex fuel powerplants that are used in the hatchbacks. The entry level variant will get the 1.0 litre unit with manual gearbox while the higher variants are powered by a 1.6 litre motor which is paired to either manual or automatic transmission.
If the low cost Hyundai HB20 sedan is brought to India, it can be priced competitively since it's based on the i20 platform and could be made as a successful successor of the completely outdated Hyundai Accent. However the size and specification of the HB20 could discourage Hyundai India from doing it.
