Skoda China’s president Gerrit Marx has already expressed to the Chinese media, his intention of bringing the stretched Yeti to the market. It was revealed that the vehicle would be 60mm longer than the European Yeti, taking its wheelbase from 2,578mm to 2,638mm.

This would provide more room to the rear passengers, which the Chinese are crazy about.

The SUV is undergoing pre-launch tests, and has been completely debadged. The new longer Yeti will be locally manufactured by the Shanghai-Volkswagen JV and is expected to hit the showrooms by 2013.

Initially it was reported that the Yeti would be brought in as CBU, but the company has resolved to make them locally.

Speculations suggest that power could come from a 1.4 TSI or a 1.8 TSI engine, which could be either mated to a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed DSG transmission. There could be variants offered in both 4X2 and 4X4 options.

As far as the looks are concerned nothing has changed except the stretched wheelbase. The interior is also identical to the global version.
