Tata Motors has developed a new low-cost pickup truck on the Xenon platform dubbed Tata Xenon Pickup.
You may argue that Tata Motors have a utilitarian pickup in the market in the form of the 207. However the market-ready Xenon Pickup spotted here is a slightly more posh variant, positioned above the 207, to compete for market share with the Mahindra Genio.
In a recent media interaction, officials from Tata Motors have reportedly said that they have planned not less than 50 launches from their commercial vehicles division. The Xenon Pickup variant could be the first in this gamut of launches.
The Xenon pickup is meant for businesses which have interests in expensive goods such as consumer electronics. It is understandable that a home delivery of a LED TV is made best in a carrier that reflects the status or health of the business. Then there are entrepreneurs who make self deliveries or transport goods personally. These class of customers would like to be seen in something better appointed than a Tata Ace or an Ashok Leyland Dost.
Tata Xenon Pickup features
- Cabin of the Tata Xenon single cab
- Flat cargo bay
- Leaf spring front and rear suspension, fitted with anti-roll bar
- 16-inch wheels
- Tubeless tyres
- 3.0-litre turbo BS3 engine with 70PS power
The official launch could be conducted in the following weeks, but this is unverified. The Tata Xenon Pickup is expected to be priced between 5.5-6 lakh rupees (on-road).
