Skoda has silently slipped in another variant of the Fabia named 'Scout' into its Indian lineup since yesterday. This is not a complete surprise to us as the company has showcased the Scout variant at the Auto Expo fitted with the Vento's diesel engine. Skoda soft launched the car as it may have considered the Auto Expo showcasing as its Indian premiere.

Don't let the name play with your imagination! The Fabia Scout is the regular Fabia with the following features -

Skoda Fabia Scout front three quartersSkoda Fabia Scout rear three quarters

  • Projector headlamps
  • Front bumper with spoiler
  • Rear bumper with diffuser
  • Protective cladding around the car
  • Front and rear door sill trims
  • Stainless steel pedal set

On top of these extras, Skoda continues to offer dual airbags, integrated audio player, power windows, remote locking and tinted glass. Skoda offers a Scout variant each for petrol and diesel.

The Fabia Scout visually differentiates itself from the other variants but does not have special capabilities. It cannot off-road or is not a performance variant as the powertrains are no different. The visual ruggedness is the key element that sets it apart from its siblings.

Skoda Fabia Scout prices

Delhi (ex-showroom)

  • 1.2L petrol - 6,79,566
  • 1.2L diesel - 8,10,909

Mumbai (ex-showroom)

  • 1.2L petrol - 6,66,842
  • 1.2L diesel - 7,95,690

The launch of this model throws up an interesting possibility with the Polo as Volkswagen has a counterpart to the Fabia Scout called CrossPolo in Europe. The CrossPolo does not differ in dimensions or performance. It has protective cladding along its flanks and benefits from raised ground clearance and larger wheels.

We have to wait and see if Volkswagen introduces a CrossPolo customized for the Indian market and we believe the decision will be influenced by the kind of acceptance for the Fabia Scout in India.
