Mules of the new Swift were caught near Delhi by our reader Prabal Khanna. Production of the new Swift begins in the next couple of months so the market introduction will happen by July end.
Given the rise in demand for cars costing between 3.5-5.5 lakh rupees, the company, according to a leading business newspaper, is planning to boost production to about 17k units from the current 13k units. This is a brave move as new entrants like Etios Liva, Honda Brio are going to be available in the marketplace. If Maruti manages to sell 17k units a month despite the new arrivals, the Swift stays in the lead.
The new Swift will come with the same 1.3-liter Multi-jet diesel engine and the 1.2-liter K Series engine. The latter might be equipped with variable valve timing enabling it to produce close to 90PS.
