Nissan was caught testing the upcoming Sunny (Micra platform sedan) near the Chennai airport an hour ago. These pictures were picked up in thick traffic and at night, so you have to excuse us for their slightly low quality.
Nissan started selling the Sunny in the Chinese market last December and intends to bring it to India during Diwali under a different name. Sources say “Almera” is being internally considered but what it turns out to be, we have to wait till the launch to know.
Engine options for the Sunny sedan will be the 4-cylinder 1.6-liter petrol engine and the oil-burning 1.5-liter unit from the Micra. The sedan could get strapped with an automatic transmission. Nissan will pit the locally-manufactured Sunny against the likes of the VW Vento, new Hyundai Verna and new Ford Fiesta.

Almera and Sunny are two different cars already existing in International Markets. Sunny has been there for quite sometime and I used to have a 2004 Sunny in East Africa. Its your normal Sedan, which can compete with SX4, Fiesta and other such cars.
India can certainly do with this car. Any idea whether it will be priced above or below the Micra? I hope they do not name it “Almera,” whatever that may mean, it sounds too close to “Almirah” and nobody wants a car that is like an Almirah even if it is by name only.
this will be priced above the Micra in the league of the Honda City, Ford Fiesta sedan and Hyundai Verna. Well, the name hasn’t yet been frozen, so it could be something else and not Almera.
I have seen this car near redhills, this car has awesome legroom at the back, interior straight from micra and finally far better looks in flesh with good road presence. thou i did not like the seat finish and material used in the car was not upto the mark.
