As the French car maker tries to find a place to establish a factory in India, Overdrive is reporting on the future plans of Peugeot for India and boy are they exciting!

First up, the company has narrowed down on two states to establish their factory – Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. Now, it is all about which state makes the best offer. The plant will take two years to construct and will be fully functional by 2013.

But the company is keen on revealing their product even before the manufacturing facility is established. The company is analyzing the feasibility of a CKD or a CBU route to enter India. The 2 cars that are chosen to hold the torch are: 508 saloon and the 3009 MPV.

Peugeot 508

Peugeot 508 will take on the likes of the Passat, Camry and Superb

The 508 saloon will sit in the D+ segment and will give competition to Honda Accord and Skoda Superb. Peugeot may offer two 1.6-litre petrols and five diesels, ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 litres on the car, giving between 112 and 204PS to the car. We can expect this car to be priced at around 20 lakh rupees.

The Peugeot 3009 (Internally called Project T87) is a 5-seater compact crossover that will replace the 3008. This MPV is still undergoing its final testing so details are hard to come by. The MPV is expected to debut this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. We expect this vehicle to take on the likes of the Tata Aria and Chevrolet Captiva.

And last but not the least; Peugeot is planning a whole new model just for the emerging markets such as India. However, whether this model will be a hatch or a saloon is still unknown.

What are your guesses – Will it be a hatch or a saloon or MPV?

Peugeot should also look into B & C Segment as they are the most selling in India if it works for them. They should follow the Hyundai strategy rather than Nissan.

The car for emerging markets will be based on some old platform of their small cars like the 208 probably. Then there will be the inevitable saloon which is designed by just sticking a boot. It’s the usual affair guys.

well, we aren’t sure about Peugeot’s product and plans. We read about the 3009 replacing the 3008, but once we get official information, we will share it with the readers. But thanks for the heads up ;-)

    Good news!

But Peugeot will have to make some great efforts to make sure people can trust them.
Most of them must have forgotten that the company once used to be selling a product here and those remembering it won’t easily head to the showrooms, until the company proves itself.
