Hoping to cash-in on the new budget reforms, Tata Motors has decided to assemble its Freelander SUV in India. Earlier, the so called ‘Baby Landrover’ was imported in form of a CBU to India.
But now Tata Motors will import CKD units from JLR and assemble them at their Chikhli plant near Pune.
Tata Motors MD and CEO Carl Peter Forster -
The local assembly will start later this year, where we will produce all available variants of the Freelander. While we are the fastest growing luxury brand in China, the local assembly in the Indian market would help the parent company to leverage its potential in the home market
The company plans to produce 2,000 units of the Freelander 2 every year. If everything goes as per plan, we expect a price tag of 25 lakhs on the ‘Sort of Made-in-India’ Freelander 2.
