After Mitsubishi declared that it will neuter the EVO by dropping a hybrid engine in it, now the Germans are also picking up scalpels and heading towards the operation theater. First among the victim is the all new Mercedes C-Class which is expected to go on sale in 2013.

Mercedes has decided that instead of having a hybrid variant in the C-Class lineup, the entire range should be hybridized to aim for an emissions quotient of just 100 g/km.

To further save some fuel, the company is also considering cylinder deactivation mechanism for its four-cylinder units that would reduce the engine to operating on just 2-cylinders when less power is needed. Of course, the Mercedes is also focusing on reducing friction, weight and improving fuel-economy.

Considering the Germans are so obsessed with what each other is doing, we wouldn’t be surprised if the A4 and the new 3 Series are also neutered soon.
