Hyundai’s Nano Killer – HA (its internal codename) is something of a very keen interest for IAB. The simple reason being it will be the first car to challenge the Nano on its home turf. We have brought you the spyshots of this car before but those were taken in the dark and one couldn’t see much.
Don’t be disappointed, here we have some fresh spyshots taken in bright sunlight. Although, the car is heavily camouflaged, one can easily make out the i10 connection. The car is sporting the same headlights and wheels as the i10. It seems like Hyundai bought themselves a photocopier and put the i10 through at one and made it to 75% of its original size
The one problem that we notice as of right now is the window line for the back seat. It seems that it is raised way up just like the Beat or the A-star. And if you have been in the back seat of either of these two cars, you would know how claustrophobic it can get.
Jokes apart, this car is sure to steal some of the Nano’s spotlight. The car will be aggressively priced to take the top variants of Nano and some entry level maruti products.
The car is being built in Hyderabad on a modified Santro platform and will be sporting an 814cc three-cylinder version of the Epsilon engine developing around 48bhp (approx 15 bhp more than a Nano).
Expect the new car to hit the market in the later half of 2011

Hai guys, there is one strange coincidence in the 2 spy pics shown above. If all goes well and according to the Hyundai board-meeting plans the 2 pictures will come literally true. Picture no.1 shows the new Hyundai HA in front of an Alto. The same could happen in terms of sales if the HA is priced at approx 2.25 lakhs. Picture no.2 shows the front bumper of a Santro, while the focus is the HA. The same would happen once the HA is unleashed. Santro will fade into the night and HA will emerge as the new entry level superstart for Hyundai……It might be a coincidence, but the 2 pictures seem to be predicting the market of 2012!!!
Dear Folks, its high time that people stopped talking about NANO!!! Its a big No..No..these days and people are already adjusting to the media hype. Nano took the auto industry by storm, lets face it. But that storm turned out to be in a tea cup!!!The real factor that we are missing out here is the Maruti 800. It is this wonderful car of the past 2 decades th and its segment that all the other manufacturers are eyeing on. Their pride would not make them admit it. Maruti 800 is BSIII and the new emission norms has made it impossible for the yesterday’s superstart to continue. The Hyundai HA and the GM spark 800 are both eyeing this 800 cc segment left open by Maruti. Nano can never be compared to the class of a Maruti 800….the comfort, the drivability, the economy, and the service, its all been a class apart. So folks, lets understand that the Hyundai HA is not a Nano slayer……Nano will die down soon unless TATA comes up with a miraculous package once agian.

@Raja,
Good to know you do agree to what I think. At the same time you also made a very strong point – no doubt quality will be compromised.
Seeing the Nano sales in recent months which is going downwards – is it logical for more companies to enter Nano segment which is declining very fast? Will it be profitable? Will it help in lifting Company’s image? More importantly how many customers really want a Nano segment car? With rising income and options we as customers try to opt for premium though not big cars. From wagonR to cruze is what I will do.
I hope Companies start making practical choices and just not rush to be in Nano segment just cause Tata is making it and hoping to make it big…but how big only time will tell. ::)) This is 2011 and not that time when Ford was making T model. Time has changed a lot.:)
Jai Ho. Sab ka Malik Ek.
A foolish idea i will say. Is hyundai opting to beat nano in terms of price or size. If size then may be a hit. If price, and such similarity with i10? I am sure all proud owners of i 10 will no longer be so proud. Why not hyundai stop i10 and just consider making nano killer – this way it may well be in interest of future owners of i10, atleast they will not be looking so foolish – paying for i10 and getting a car which is infact a nano only. Just stupid. it beats me.
You made a valid point there. I think if they make it look like the i10, and the by the looks of it, this one looks as big as the i10, it will not go down well with the i10 buyers.
I think the interiors have to be inferior, boot space needs to be small, rear has to be a bit cramped and the same ix-based design language might not be a good idea after all. Else the i10 will be pointless. Or Hyundai has to take i10 to another level by giving it a diesel engine and perhaps even better features. The gap has to be clear. I mean the gap between Santro and i10 is wide, the two products clearly are not for the same buyer. The new HA needs to carve out a place for itself in the Hyundai lineup and not eat up the volumes of i10.
Hyundai, I think, hopes to manufacture 70,000 HAs in the first year. Hopefully they’ll still make the 12-13k units of i10 they are making now once the HA is out. If the HA eats into the i10′s volumes, it’s not good news for Hyundai, I can bet.
Hyundai is testing its deisel version of i10
Good catch…no company or person have no rights to stop taking pictures or shout at anyone, when a car driven on the public road. That is not his fault also..:)
You are exactly right, the rear door window resumbles A-star. I know couple of potential buyers avoided to buy A-star, due to the rear window. I don’t know why Hyundai opts that design !!
@Anand – well, that’s the ix design language I’m afraid. The kink will be present on all Hyundais till they go in for a design change.
