Audi is certainly betting big on the Indian Market. When we spied the A7 in Mumbai recently, we sure knew that something was cooking in the German camp. But we predicted that the German czar will wait for the A8 to settle down in the market and then release the sporty A7.
Turns out that the German don’t believe in the term ‘settle down.’
After launching a R8 variant this month, the company is hard at work charting the launch plans of the A7. Siddharth Vinayak Patankar (NDTV’s Automotive Editor) has posted a facebook update that Audi will bring the A7 in May 2011.
Touted at the A6’s evil cousin, the Audi A7 is 5-door fastback which truly a blend of luxury and style. The A7 is expected with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine coupled to a 7-speed transmission. Audi could position this car close to the A8.
Engine options for Audi A7 internationally
- Supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 272 PS (200 kW)
- 4.2 liter V8 with 377 PS (277 kW)
- 3.0-liter TDI with 253 PS (184 kW)
- 4.2 liter TDI with 355 PS (258 kW).
This is certainly a very niche product and Audi know that well. But the fact that global manufactures are ready to experiment with the Indian market is really a true joy for all of us.
