The world’s largest car manufacturer, Volkswagen, has unveiled the all new, next-generation version of its mid-size saloon, the Jetta. The new car features major revisions in design and styling as compared to its predecessor and draws a lot of inspiration for its looks from the NCC Concept Coupe which VW showcased at this year’s Detroit Motor Show. The new Jetta has adopted the Volkswagen family front-end look as seen on the new Polo, Golf, Touareg and Phaeton.
The new Jetta still shares its platform with the Golf, but it features a wheelbase stretched by 70 mm over the Golf. The new Jetta has also grown in length over its predecessor by 90 mm and now has a length of 4644 mm. The increase in length has been done to increase passenger legroom at the rear and thereby enhance overall comfort.
The new Jetta in Europe will be offered with a wide range of petrol as well as diesel engine options from Volkswagen’s enormous engine portfolio, but in India, the car could come with a 1.4 litre TSI petrol and the 1.6 litre TDI diesel from the Vento.
The new Jetta could be launched in India sometime around March 2011, reports Autocar India and should be priced in the 16-18 lakh price bracket.

Jetta was an Awsome car. I took test drive last month. Even under high speed car was very stable and under control. I hit 190 KM/hr max. Compared to Laura, Jetta is bit more comfortable. Main disadvantage in Jetta is, all modes have same face. But when it comes to Luxury Jetta gives its value for money.
Jetta is amazing and good under 12 lakhs, but above this price range other rivals look more attractive like Civic, passat, kizashi etc.
16-18 lakh creates a gap in d total product mix from Vento to Jetta and a marginal gap from Jetta to Passat turning d customer preferences to the competition products in Vento to Jetta gap.
15-18 is a confused pricing as there will be a huge gap between Vento n Jetta with a marginal gap btw Jetta n Passat increasing d competition options in the vento jetta gap more lucarative.
When new jetta is launching. What is difference between present jetta 2.00 & new jetta?
WHATTTT??? how in god’s name could they be pricing it at those levels…laura is now offering a 1.8 litre , 160bhp ( ooofff ) petrol engine at 15 lacs on road mumbai. Plus they have now added the 2 + 2 extended warranty as well…..in this category forget the rest & simply book the laura ….period
laura is second hand technologo mahn!!!!
laura is laura because VW has given it the 1-8 tsi…..a brand belonging to chek republic can never compete a pure german car.The number of die hard fans jetta has worldwide cant ever be matched by laura…heckkk
all skoda cars in india have a VW engine.skoda is a parasite
I M WAITING FOR NEW JETTA CAN U TELL WAT IS THE LAUNCHING DATE FOR NEW JETTA IN INDIA
it will be launching somewhere around august to october
Pl. inform me the exact date of launch for ALL NEW JETTA in India.
I am planning to purchase car within a month.
wait for some more time and u will get a class leading car.wait till august.
old jetta was good the new jetta has no better look
The current Jetta has a bullish look. very manly, but the new Jetta has a same look as Vento. I don’t like the new look.
The new Jetta from the video i watched looks like the Audi A4 on the outside. Like it or not thats how car looks will go, i.e shorter and longer. I would say the current Audi A4 looks better than the previous Audi. You wont know what you like until you have seen the real thing in full and until you have seen the new one for some time.
very highly priced
quality and technology have their price buddy
I agree the fact tht it is a VW make but for buyers i’m sure tht nobody would really want to pay as much as 16-18 lakhs INR for a 1.4 tsi engine. There are way too many completing cars with as good features and better engines costing the same or may be less..eg skoda laura 1.8 tsi.
You dont know yet if they will charge that much for the 1.4 TSI. This is just news you read from unofficial sources, you will know the real pricing for different capacity engines when they are out directly from the VW India website.
[...] the new Volkswagen Jetta campaign is simple and that’s brilliant because I love simplistic advertising; makes the Ad more [...]
16 to 18 lakhs for 1.4 & 1.6tdi engine is too much. Skoda superd, VW passat are much better deal. Should be in competition with new toyota altis diesel, civic, cruze. Price should be around 11-12 lakh, no reason to be more pricey.
look at the features and interior quality .they are using nappa leather man!!and 1.4 and 1.6 is not the correct info.they will be launching a 2.0 variant as well
jetta is one of the best car which has better interior than cruze civic laura
Volkswagen are better cars than Toyota, or Skoda and they are priced higher accordingly in Europe. the comfort and driving pleasure too are far better. Toyota is better than a Honda of the same category and so higher priced than a Honda. Thats why within the same category – a VW is costlier than a Skoda or Toyota, and A Toyota is costlier than a Honda and so on. Passat is a different category car- Passat can be compared to a Skoda Superb in category, not to a Jetta.
I am sure new jetta will be priced between 12 to 15 lakh…
here in US, new Jetta will start from 16000USD, which is lower than out going jetta.
16 to 18 lakh is a lot for this simple looking car…
@Parthik – But it will have all the traits of a VW. See it in flesh and you’ll like it
looks are decisive learn to think beyond that.m sure u have never driven jetta.the roar the thrust and most important the level of SAFETY U FEEL INSIDE THE CAR
it has 6 air bags ASR,TCS which none of its competitors have.ground clearance is BEST in class
K,,BUT JETTA MUST INCREASE THE ENGINE BHP COMPARE TO CRUZE,,,
Price of any car is lowest in the USA. The same car is costlier in Europe, and in India with the high import duties it is very expensive. The new Jetta is costlier because the Govt have raised the import duties and imposed new import duties effective from this year. Whichever car imports and engine, that car will be much pricier than cars that manufactures their engines in India.
If the Jetta is going to be 18 lakhs where will the new Passat fit??
@Goa on Wheels – The Passat comes at 19.xx lakh rupees, so there is enough room to fit the new Jetta.
here comes the new passat…
