The official unveiling of the new BMW 5-Series is not very far away, and before you get to look at the actual car, Auto Express has prepared a drawing of how the car is going to look.

The controversial Bangle touches have been shed, the new design is conservative, but elegant. Design wise, the 5 Series will look very close to the 7 Series and the Concept CS. The interiors will be very close to the recently launched 5-Series GT.

BMW has also added four-wheel steering to the new 5 Series. An active rear differential is also on the list of technologies.

New BMW 5 Series engines

The basic car (520i) will have a 175bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit equipped with start-stop technology. This particular engine will be replaced at a later stage by a 2.0-litre turbo, delivering 200-250bhp. The 530i will have the same 272bhp straight-six and the 550i will swap its 4.8-litre V8 for the cleaner and more powerful 401bhp twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 from the 7-Series.

Diesel engines will also be on the offer with the 177bhp 520d remaining the entry point. The 525d will ger a four cylinder 204bhp engine. Both the 235bhp 530d and 286bhp twin-turbo 535d will return.
