With a few days remaining for the Indian launch, the Indonesian market has received the automatic transmission variant of the Toyota Fortuner, which has been on sale in Malaysia for six months.
Previously all diesel Fortuners were mated to a manual tranny.
The Toyota Fortuner 2.7V (petrol) is targeted at those who value performance while the 2.5G (diesel) is for those looking at fuel economy.
With this, there are now 4 variants of Fortuner sold by PT Toyota Astra Motor -
2.5G 4×2 MT diesel, 2.5G 4×2 AT diesel, 2.7G 4×2 AT petrol and 2.7V 4×4 AT petrol.
A kitted up TRD Sportivo Limited Edition version is also available for those looking for a little bit more style.
The 2.5G AT Fortuner is equipped with 2-DIN audio visual system, automatic and dual air-conditioning, and a gated type shifter.
The Fortuner is also a market leader in its segment – between January to June 2009, Fortuner controlled 30% of the 4×4 Medium segment and 26% of the 4×2 SUV High segment. In the month of July, it extended its market share in the 4×2 segment to 33.7%.

any news on the AT with sunroof fortuner for india?
@Sikander – we’ve not heard anything from Toyota on the AT version. I don’t see it coming here before 2012.
when is the petrol version of fortuner suppose to come to india
full automatic fortuner india
@Lifegoeson – I hope I can get my hands on one and tell you the strengths!
@Andy – I hear a lot of this in my city too (Chennai). I think some of that is correct.
@Anand Nayak – I don’t think so. Expect it to be a lakh costlier.
The Fortuner is a popular SUV here in South Africa. We have a choice of 4,0-litre V6 petrol or 3,0-litre diesel engines. As an indication of how popular it is, when the car was launched here in ’06 it immediately went on back order and in ’08 it was on the SA passenger vehicle best sellers list.
@Scott – I see. The Innova MPV, which shares its platform with the Fortuner, is a big hit here in India. Majority of them (53%) are top-end variants bought by families and a lot of them are used for taxis too.
Can someone speculate the engine and power of this beast?? I pray and request Toyota not to detune it for India,
To IAB Team. We all eagerly await to read your coverage for the Fortuner launch and also its road test thereafter.
Had been to Thailand about 3 months back and must tell you this is a true winner from Toyota in that market too. I saw loads of Fortuners there. It looks good too!
Can you plz give us a approx price range for it? Will Toyota pull a rabbit out of the bag by pricing it around 18 lakh?
Me and my wife have been eagerly awaiting for this one since a long time. I’m not going to book a vehicle till I see it.
Have to say this that atleast from the pics the Fortunner looks like its gonna make a big dent on this segment.Hope they price it properly.
If you have not noticed India is directly getting the latest Fortuner. I believe toyota dealers in Bangalore are taking Rs.1lakh as advance. No data on cars provided, no printed material only for the most trusted toyota customers in bangalore 75 are already booked and I know a guy who has paid the 2 lakh.
Are we getting the same spec Fortuner as the SE Asian market?
Wow, Cant wait to see the Fortuner here on our tarmac.
