Maruti Suzuki is facing delays in acquiring permission from Fiat to fit a 1.6-liter Multi-jet diesel engine into its SX4. Fiat apparently wants to release a more powerful Linea with the same engine and then grant the license to Maruti Suzuki. Maruti is not willing to plonk the 1.9-liter engine that the European SX4 uses since costs would go out of hand.
In the last six months, Honda managed to sell 15,000 Cities while Maruti sold just 8000 SX4s. The agony is Suzuki’s in-house candidate, the Swift Dzire, has diverted buyers away from the SX4.
Expect to see a SX4 diesel in India next year. Expect to see a more powerful Fiat Linea before that.

pls just veryfy diesel perfect car.
we want the new diesel sx4 with more pick up then any other ones
sx4 has good road grip, pick up is good. Definitely more spacious than other cars in same segment. Car styling is good, big boot space. Higher ground clearance avoids any un-noticed bumps on road.its too worthful for our money.so definitely sx4 diesel version is not coming to india is sad news
this is the great launching in future taht maruti suzuki will introducing their famous sedan sx4 diesel and it increase the sale of the company and break the old records and it will be the car of the year in 2010.
This is real sad, as it is the SX4 is a good car and with an Diesel option it wud have sold still better.
@Naeem Khan – We too were shocked to hear about this. I don’t know why Fiat can’t use a 1.3-liter Multijet engine like the Fiat Linea with similar dimensions does.
Hello folks, why is IAB not doing any roadtests with Maruti Cars, the new Vitara is what we await to read of.
