New Hyundai Tucson/ix 35 is now official

Hyundai ix 35 - 6

Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Tucson crossover in Korea a few hours back. It held a press conference where the production model was unveiled for the very first time.

The 2011 Hyundai Tucson has a totally different exterior styling to that of the out-going model. Hyundai’s new design language and the attractive ix-onic concept car come together on the Tucson to make it one of our favorite cars.

Added features are the panoramic glass-roof, hill-start assist control, downhill brake control (DBC), vehicle dynamic control (VDC), rear-view camera and others.

For a start, Hyundai will use only one gasoline and one diesel engine. Hyundai will offer either a 2.0L Theta II gasoline engine (166 horsepower) or the 2.0L R-diesel engine (184 horsepower). Engines are married to Hyundai’s all-new 6-speed automatic transmission and the diesel model comes in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options.

When the new Tucson goes on sale overseas, Hyundai says it should be able to sell 260,000 units per year, apart from Korea.

Sales will begin early in 2010.

For India -

With Toyota bringing in the Fortuner, the game is pushed to the next level. Ford’s launching the facelifted Endy shortly and the new Nissan X-Trail is not very far away. When a spate of new cars from others in this segment are scheduled, Hyundai should look to make best use of the demand by re-introducing the new Tucson at an aggressive price.

Let us see if it comes to India.

@Jishnu – Your request will be heard by Hyundai, I’m told. The fact of the matter is whether Hyundai will bring this car to India or not. It’s a massive hit in Europe, but the initial Tucson failed to strike the right chords in the sub continent.

  5. Jishnu says:

It looks very promising. It has got all that the Tucson had and also has what it lacked. I hope Hyundai brings in the fully loaded version that has been launched in Europe in the Frankfurt motor show and not the Korean version. The Korean version lacks projector headlights which I consider very important in our badly lit highways. The car seems to be good overall and would be user friendly and practical as other Hyundai’s and most important is to maintain. The cost will mostly decide its success in India. Now is the best time to launch it since fortuner has a long waiting period, endy is the same old truck with only cosmetic changes and captiva being the only competitor.
I think hyundai should atleast give an idea to people when the vehicle will be launched in India. I own a Verna and an i10 and now changing the i10 with i20 crdi would like to change verna with ix35 if it comes. But if it doesnt I would put my money most probabily on a Chevrolet Cruze diesel.

Please Hyundai bring the ix35 to India……..

In India we lack a compact SUV with an affordable price tag of US$20,000 (exshowroom includes all)?? we are looking forward the launch of new Tucson iX 35.

In any part of the world similar vehicles will cost only $18,000-22,000 whereas in Indian market it is double the price.

yeah, this could be a big break for Hyundai, who otherwise is a small car maker in India.

  9. I believe it will definitely get launched in India. :-)

  10. Jaz says:

@Angad Singh – No idea there. Hopefully will be launched during the Auto Expo 2010 will be the new Tucson. The GV diesel might take a while and the i30 may never come to India.
