How many times have you heard this? “The Evo is coming to India”

We’ve heard it since the 9/11 attacks.

This time we’re hearing it from a highly reputed magazine, sources add it is no joke or rumor. The management seems to have woken up and is bent on broadening its product line-up in India, and the Evo will form the niche end of the queue.

The Evo X will check into India via the CBU route. It will be priced between 27-30 lakh rupees. The term budget performance car is relevant to few models like the GT-R, and the Mitsubishi Evolution features on that register.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged 300bhp engine (don’t ask for diesel, just don’t) will snap a few necks as it scampers to the 100kph mark in five seconds. Mitsubishi is looking at selling 100 units a year in India.

Good things must not be postponed. Mitsubishi should bring this to India

  2. [...] Modifying a car requires immense dedication and attention to detail. And of course a very deep pocket. The car has been given a major revamp to make this seventh generation mundane Lancer challenge the soon to be launched Lancer Evo X? [...]

Wow the Evo finally cmmg to Indian soil, this shud be the best and the fastest car and that too at a much lower price then the BMWs and the Mercs and Audis.

    • Jaz says:

@Anand Nayak – I don’t think Evo buyers would prefer this car over a C-Class or the 3-Series since it is in a different league – a league of performance cars. But yes, it being cheaper than any of the german brands is a good thing which will work for Mitsubishi.

    Great move by Mitsubishi..!

Even if they won’t be able to achieve the target of 100 units a year, the Launch of the Evo will do tons of good in Improving an Image of company in India, Which is almost lost in the race with Japenese Siblings…

    • Jaz says:

@Shakti – very rightly said. Honda and Toyota, who came around the same time, have a better image than Mitsubishi. Nissan, who will enter the market next year looks in a strong position. It is Mitsubishi who is losing out in this battle.

  5. satya says:

can they keep it under 30 lakh? will there be service backup for the product? is mitsubishi’s service reputation OK?

    • Jaz says:

@Satya – I hope they take care of it. I have a few friends who own a Lancer, and they are pleased with the service here. I also see many of them opting for a local service station which is not authorized to service these cars. But servicing the Evo needs experience and training. I hope Mitsubishi take ample care and train their mechanics and technicians.

since 26/11 ! lolz..very true, since that time I have been hearing from someone or the other – The Evo is coming. But it never came. I thought after Auto Expo last year, a launch will happen. But unfortunately, did not happen :(

    • Jaz says:

@Aravind – yes, we too have been a victim of such statements. It’s been a disappointing act, but hopefully this Auto Expo things will be cool.

  7. Greg says:

Great looking and performing cars, however since I drive an STi I have to stick with Subaru on this one.

    • Jaz says:

@Greg – The STi is another budget performance car but sadly the brand is not available in India. Even though Nissan is present in the country, they have not bothered introducing the GT-R here
