Hyundai India Launches Verna Automatic; Other changes cosmetic

Hyundai Motors has finally launched the refreshed Verna with an Automatic Gearbox. This is the first diesel car in its segment equipped with an auto transmission. Other changes on new Verna are purely cosmetic.

Refreshed Hyundai Verna Engine and Gearbox-

The refreshed Verna is available in total of four new variants, Two Petrol - 1.6 VTVT & 1.6 SX VTVT and two diesel 1.5 CRDi VGT & 1.5 SX CRDi VGT, The VGT SX variant comes with an Auto gearbox.

The 1.6 litre petrol variant develops a 103.2PS@5500 rpm and 14.9 kgm@3000 rpm. The 1.5l diesel variant develops a power output of 110 ps@4000 rpm and a torque of 24 kgm@1900 - 2750 rpm. The top end diesel variant will be available with both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission.

Refreshed Hyundai Verna Exterior- 6 new colors added

Additions include a new radiator grille, electrically adjustable ORVM, new chrome insert in waistline moulding, rear chrome garnish and a new wheel cover.

Refreshed Hyundai Verna Interior-

The interiors of the new Verna make it visually more appealing with new fabrics and improvements in quality and finish. The audio console has been upgraded and boasts of a high fidelity 2 DIN Music System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. The new Verna also comes with ABS.

Hyundai launches new Verna
- Introduces the 1st Diesel Automatic in the segment

New Delhi, February 9, 2009: Hyundai Motor India, the country’s largest exporter and the second largest car manufacturer today launched the all new Verna with luxurious interiors and improved exterior features to further enhance its appeal to customers.

Commenting on the launch of the new Verna, HMIL MD, H.S Lheem said, “Hyundai Verna is a proven success in India and the new variant which also comes with an automatic transmission – a first for this segment will further enhance customer delight and satisfaction. With the launch of the new Verna, we have once again raised the competitive bar for style, performance, safety and driving dynamics in India`s mid-size car segment.”

The new Verna range includes two petrol variants – 1.6 VTVT & 1.6 SX VTVT – and two diesel variants - 1.5 CRDi VGT & 1.5 SX CRDi VGT. In addition, Hyundai has also introduced Automatic transmission in VGT SX variant making it the 1st diesel A/T in its segment. Uniquely developed for a demanding segment of Indian consumers, the automatic version provides economy of diesel and the convenience of an automatic transmission in the same package.

The 1.6 litre petrol variant develops an impressive 103.2PS@5500 rpm as maximum power and 14.9 kgm@3000 rpm of maximum torque. While the engine and the mechanicals remain the same the new Verna brings in a host of new features. The new Verna offers aerodynamic styling on the exteriors with a stylish new radiator grille, electrically adjustable ORVM, new chrome insert in waistline moulding, rear chrome garnish and a new full wheel cover for enhanced visual appeal.

The interiors of the new Verna boast several significant design revisions with premium, sophisticated new fabrics and detailed improvements in quality and finish. The audio console has been upgraded too and boasts of a high fidelity 2 DIN Music System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. The new Verna also incorporates safety features like ABS, reflecting Hyundai’s emphasis on safety and security.

To add to these features, the new Verna comes in 6 new exciting colours to choose from: Blushing Red, Stone Black, Crystal White, Champagne Gold, Sleek Silver & Deep Ocean Blue.

Hyundai Verna launched in India in September 2006 with both petrol and diesel engine, created a different experience for customers with its exterior and interior features that redefined the automobile segment in the country. The Santro and the Accent also received the `TNS Voice of the Customer - 2008` award for the Premium Compact Car (Santro) and the Entry Mid size Car (Accent). In March 2008 it achieved yet another milestone by rolling out the fastest 500,000th export car.

Last year, the Hyundai Verna bagged some of the most prestigious awards starting with the title of "Car of the Year 2007" by India`s leading automotive publication – Overdrive, the “Best Mid-size Car of the Year” award by the NDTV Profit Car & Bike India Awards 2007, the “Best Value for Money Car” by the CNBC Autocar Auto awards and `Performance Car of the Year 2007` from Business Standard Motoring.
