Rendering- Redesigned VW Polo which will roll out of Chakan in 2010

A renewed Volkswagen Polo hatchback and a sedan based on the Polo will roll out of VW’s Chakan Plant in Pune in 2010. VW’s Chakan plant will start functioning in April, producing sister compan Skoda’s Fabia, a year before original intentions. The underlying structures of the Skoda Fabia will be used to make the Polo and Polo sedan.

The refreshed VW Polo will be shown to the world at Geneva this year. This car will be manufactured in places like India and Brazil where there is more demand for small cars. Apart from selling it locally, VW also has export plans in mind.

The sedan variant will come later next year. Both the cars will be displayed at the Delhi AutoExpo next year. The refreshed cars will borrow styling cues from the Scirocco concept. It will also be a better car in terms of design, performance and interiors.

Expected under the hood is a 1.2 petrol, 1.6 petrol and 1.6 diesel engine.

    Update-
Europe’s largest car maker VW today officially announcer that their Pune plant will start production from May this year.Skoda fabia will be the first car to be produced from the sate-of-art chakan plant.Rolling out from this plant, next year will be VW POLO hatchback. It means POLO is going to be second model manufactured from this plant.
VW was working very hard since last year to develope a vendor base in Pune and surrounding areas. Now, they have reached in a position to produce cars in India on their own.Till now they were just doing assembly in India.
VW is looking at India with great expectations. They were actually able to attain good market growth in last two years in India. Now, VW at their HQ r working their ass off to achieve expenential growth in India. India is their main hope in this difficult time.
Now, they are going to hire some 2,500 professionals in near future in India. Also, from second quarter onwards they will focus on spreading their dealer network to small towns. VW is going to announce a number of launches in next 2 years. Apart from POLO they have plan to bring a small car(from Skoda brand) costing something around 4 lakh, less than Fabia.
Lesse what else is there in VW’s sleeve to offer to Indian customers.
I am sure when 2 million cars per year comes out of dealers shop in 2014 in India from 1.2 million per year from now, VW will operate its Chakan plant with full capacity of 110,000 cars per year.

    rgds,

I am interested in finding out the following :
    1. When is VW to launch the Golf Mk VI in India?
    2. What options will we get in the Mk VI for India – will we get the GTi with a 2 litre petrol developing 207 bhp? How about other technical features, such as ABS, curtain airbags hydraulic assisted steering and so on.
    3. Similar questions for the Polo
I firmly believe that VW should position the Golf and the Polo as 'hi-tech' hatchbacks and sedans, offer both petrol and diesel engines ( powerful petrol engines too) and price them in the 10-15 lac bracket to breakthrough in the so-called 'executive/luxury sedan segment' in India and offer these hatches and sedans as more driver friendly, built-to-last, environmentally friendly cars so as to offer options to the Corolla/Civic/Octavia/Laura/Optra range. VW should not attempt to position the Golf along with the Fabia/Linea/City range as it is a superior product, meant for more discerning buyers.
    Thank you
