Following the tremendous success of i10, the Korean car maker Hyundai has today finally launched the much awaited i20 in India.
Hyundai i10 is huge success not only in India but in foreign markets like Germany as well. Something along the similar lines is expected with i20. Hyundai i20 is already sold in European markets, Hyundai had begun exports right here from India, where it is exclusively made.
The ‘Smooth, Suave, Sure Uber Cool’ hatchback, as Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) likes to call it, is available in total of 3 variants - Magna, Asta and the top end model which comes fully loaded is the Asta (O) optional pack.
The i20 is the largest and most spacious hatchback in its segment. The car is 3940mm in length, 1710mm wide and 1505mm tall. The wheelbase measures to 2525mm, which means plenty of room at the back to stretch your legs even when seated behind a 6+ foot driver.

Hyundai i20 India Price
Hyundai has very fairly and competitively priced its i20, It's pricing as follows -
Hyundai i20 Magna : Rs. 4,79,900
Hyundai i20 Asta: Rs. 5,59,000
Hyundai i20 Asta (O): Rs. 5,81,900
IAB had earlier predicted the price of the i20 should be roughly 5 lakh for the base model, and our guess wasn't very far from the actual one!
"The Hyundai i20 that we launch today was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. The overwhelming response to the Hyundai i20 from the automobile media in Europe continues to reaffirm the iconic place our products enjoy all across the world. Hyundai created a new era in the Indian compact segment by introducing the i10 in 2007 which significantly upped the benchmark for the compact cars. The i20 is developed to meet the increasing customer expectations in terms of styling, features and safety to global standards. It is refreshing with its distinctive styling and we are confident that it will revolutionise the Indian automobile space offering an experience of a lifetime to discerning customers in the country.” said H.S Lheem, Managing Director HMIL.

IAB Comment- The Hyundai i20 would be an additional success story from HMIL after the i10, if it works in reality, similar to its promises on paper. The car has very bold and muscular styling which will appeal to Indian car buyers. I think Hyundai is trying to do the same trick as they had done with the i10- Low Price, more features and this is what Indian buyers want.
Hyundai i20 has something for all kinds of Indian car buyers. It is decently priced for the cost conscious buyers, it has decent fuel economy of 11.3kpl and 16.1kpl for the city and highway respectively and lots of useful and safety features.
There is no diesel to power on the i20 now, but we anticipate Hyundai to introduce CRDi power on it very soon. Also, there are some strong chances of the i20 to win 2009 Car Of The Year Award (ICOTY), this car may re-live the history of the i10.
This is just starting of Hyundai's all new products, hope we will get to see more soon. So what's next? The i30?
