Suzuki eyes Weight Reduction in future cars
October 8, 2008 # # Maruti Suzuki, Suzuki # One CommentSuzuki considers the concept of ‘lighter, faster, better’ for achieving optimum efficiency in its cars. As an initiative, Suzuki recently launched the ‘one component, one gram’ drive in Istanbul, which aims at reducing the weight of each of the cars’ components by a gram and thereby bringing down the overall weight of the car. Less weight translates into better performance, higher economy and lower price.
Highly placed sources have revealed that, Maruti Suzuki is looking to reduce the cost of each of the 20,000 components by 1 Rupee, bringing down the cars price by Rs.20,000/- The company has started negotiations with component manufacturers, to reduce the weight and hence the prices. One vendor, Lumax, has already cut short the weight of its incandescent light components by a gram. Considering the ongoing slump in the automotive sector, this seems to be a good strategy.
