Chevrolet Cruze launched in South Korea- India launch as scheduled?

South Korea has got the new Chevrolet Cruze even after recent reports that GM had delayed launch of new products as a means of cost-cutting strategy. The Chevrolet Cruze is badged as the Lacetti Premiere in South Korea, where it will be sold under the Daewoo brand. So, Korea becomes the first market to get one of GM’s most important vehicles at the present point of time.

The Chevrolet Cruze is the first truly global vehicle that the General Motors will produce, with a keen eye on fuel economy and scalability. The Lacetti Premiere will come equipped with the same 1.6L powerplant with 140 hp as the rest of the world, meaning fuel economy is reported to approach 40 mpg on the highway. Europe won’t receive the Cruze until early 2009, with the U.S. getting the Bow Tie-branded sedan in 2010. India will get the 2.0 TCDi from the Captiva with 120/150bhp and the 1.6/1.8l petrols.

So Indian debut? We think it’s not that far away given that GM’s new plant is in operation and that GM is a leading carmaker in India well above Japanese carmakers Honda and Toyota in terms of sales. Hopefully the delay of the Cruze’s launch is pertaining only to the U.S market and we will be the next country to get the car. We deserve it. Don’t you think so?
