With the new Dzire already on sale and the next generation Swift scheduled to arrive early next year, the Ertiga is the next in line to be replaced by an all-new model. The next gen Maruti Suzuki Ertiga could be launched by the end of 2018 with a starting price of around Rs. 6.20 lakh. Here’s more on the upcoming new 2018 Maruti Ertiga launch, price and other details.
The Ertiga was launched in India in April 2012 and received a facelift in October 2015. The facelift also made the Ertiga the second product from MSIL to feature mild hybrid tech, the first being Ciaz. The company has sold over 3.42 lakh units of the Ertiga since its launch and the MPV has had a major hand in helping Maruti emerge the leader in utility vehicle market in the first quarter of 2017. Much like the current model that is based on the Swift, the new Ertiga aka Suzuki YHA will utilize the 2018 Maruti Swift’s HEARTECT platform. The new rigid and lightweight platform underpins the new Dzire, Baleno, and Ignis.

The Ertiga is an important model for Suzuki not just in India, but south east Asia as well. Development work on the upcoming MPV (codename YHA) is already underway. The new Ertiga could be launched 6-9 months after the launch of the new Maruti Swift that will make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Some reports also suggest MSIL may showcase a concept version of the upcoming Ertiga at the Auto Expo.

We do not expect the starting price of the Maruti Ertiga to go up significantly. However, top end variants of the MPV could cost more thanks to the introduction of new features. Here’s what the current Maruti Ertiga price list looks like

Maruti Ertiga Petrol Specifications (expected)
Engine | 1.4 L K14B Petrol |
Power | 68 kW |
Torque | 130 Nm |
Transmission | 5 speed Manual/4 speed Automatic or AMT |
Mileage | 17-18 KMPL |
According to some reports, the next generation Ertiga will ditch the 1,373 cc K14B Petrol engine that powers the MPV currently for a new M15A 1.5 L Petrol. This engine is rumoured to power the upcoming Maruti Ciaz and S-Cross facelifts. Also, on the cards could be a new 1.5 L Diesel developed by Suzuki to replace the aging 1.3 L D13A Diesel engine which will not be compatible with the Bharat Stage 6 emission norms coming to into effect in April 2020.
Maruti Ertiga Diesel Specifications (expected)
Engine | 1.5 L DDiS Diesel |
Power | 100-110 PS |
Torque | 250 Nm |
Transmission | 6 speed Manual/AMT |
Mileage | 25-26 KMPL |
Variant | Estimated Overall Fuel Efficiency |
Petrol | 17-18 KMPL |
Diesel | 25-26 KMPL |
The fuel consumption of the diesel variants could come down thanks to the new lighter HEARTECT platform the MPV will be based on. However, the Ertiga could lose mild hybrid tech as, under the GST scheme, hybrids have not received any incentive and are placed in the highest tax slab of 43%. Unless the government reverses the decision to tax hybrid cars heavily, don't expect SHVS on the new Ertiga.
The nose of the upcoming new model Maruti Ertiga could borrow heavily from the new Swift and Dzire. It could feature a similar single piece grille and headlamp design along with a semi-blacked out D-pillar for a floating roof effect. The new Ertiga will be based on a lengthened version of the Swift’s HEARTECT platform with a wheelbase of around 2,480-2,500 mm and an overall length of 4.3 m approximately.
The dashboard design in the new Ertiga’s cabin, much like the current model, could be identical to that of the upcoming new Swift. The cabin will have seating for seven in its standard form. MSIL may consider offering captain seats for the second row in order to appeal to buyers looking for a more premium experience. Among the features on offer will be a 7 inch SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support, automatic climate control, AC vents for all three rows. New features may include a flat bottom steering wheel, high resolution multi information display and more.
It is difficult to comment on what features the car will get. However, based on features offered on the current model and what Maruti is offering on its new models, the Ertiga could get -
