Maruti Suzuki S-Cross – Overview

Launched in August 2015, the S-Cross was the first product to be sold through Maruti’s Nexa sales channel. Owing to the lukewarm response it received, five months after its launch Maruti gave the S-Cross a massive price cut with the starting price coming down from Rs. 8.43 lakh to Rs. 7.79 lakh. The 1.6 L Diesel variants witnessed a price reduction of around 2 lakh Rupees. This helped push sales and the S-Cross has since managed to average around 2,000 units monthly. In February 2017, Maruti discontinued Delta and Zeta grades of 1.6 L DDiS 320 variant retaining just the top end Alpha trim. July 2016 saw the unveiling of the 2017 Suzuki S-Cross, which went on sale in the UK the following October. As of April 2017, MSIL had sold 50,000 units of the S-Cross.

Maruti S Cross 2017 Facelift Review of Design

The 2017 MY S-Cross was unveiled in July 2016. The new design is aimed at offering a stronger road presence, the lack of which is a major factor behind the S-Cross’ modest sales. It features heavy updates to the nose with more distinctive and upright front end styling. Up front, it gets new three-dimensionally contoured headlamps with HID projector units and DRLs. Accompanying the headlamps is a new upright ten-slat chrome grille. At the rear, it gets new LED rear combination lamps. Driving home the S-Cross’ crossover credentials are black protective skid plates and black wheel arch extensions. We have seen the new S-Cross in flesh and the styling updates help give it better presence than the current model.

Changes to the interior are very limited. There could be new seat upholstery on offer along with additions to the standard features list. There will also be an updated soft-touch dashboard pad. The Smartplay 7-inch touchscreen unit will be updated to support Android Auto in the factory spec.

  • 1.5 L K14 Petrol with 5-speed Manual (rumour)

The declining difference between petrol and diesel fuel prices and Government’s recent crackdown on diesel cars have led to a rise in popularity of petrol engine cars. Plus, the introduction of petrol variants will help bring down the starting price of the S-Cross and open it to new customer bases. Also on the cards could be an automatic transmission option, which combined with the introduction of petrol variants will enable the  S-Cross appeal to a wider audience. However, there is no concrete information confirming these claims.
