As the TUV500 will be more than 4 meters long, Mahindra will have the freedom to use the bigger 2.2 L mHawk powertrain. According to a report from January 2017, the upcoming SUV will get the Scorpio’s 2,179 cc engine and not the 1,493 cc mHawk100 that powers the TUV300. A 5-speed manual transmission option is expected to be offered as standard.

Any plans to equip the TUV300 XL with mild hybrid tech might have been shelved as under the GST bill hybrids have been placed in the highest tax slab and there are no incentives.
The upcoming 7 seat SUV has been spied on several occasions and these images reveal a front fascia identical to the TUV300. In fact, much of the exterior up until the C-pillar seems to be identical to the TUV300’s tank-inspired design. The tail has been extended to accommodate a third row of seats, which will make the TUV300 XL a proper seven seater. Rear angle reveals a slightly more raked windshield as compared to the donor car. From the looks of the test mules, the longer version of the TUV300 will retain the tail gate mounted spare wheel.
The cabin of the test mules did not carry any camouflage indicating the dashboard design will be identical to the TUV300. It gets a hexagonal centre console with an infotainment system that supports USB, AUX and Bluetooth. This 2-DIN unit may be replaced by a touchscreen in the top-end variants. Unlike the TUV300, which has jump seats behind the second row, the upcoming model will get a front facing third row of seats. Top-end variants might get captain seats in the second row. Air conditioning vents for all three rows are also likely to be present the cabin of the Mahindra TUV500.
