According to media reports, the 2179 cc mHawk diesel engine will continue to power the Scorpio However, it will be retuned to produce 140 BHP. Torque output will also increase. In June 2017, Mahindra discontinued automatic variants that came with a 6 speed transmission. Days later, reports emerged suggesting the new model Mahindra Scorpio will come with an updated version of the 6 speed automatic transmission, which means Scorpio AT variants will rejoin the lineup. In Delhi NCR, Mahindra sells the Scorpio with a 1.99 L mHawk diesel, which has the same specifications as the 2.2 L unit. This engine was introduced in March 2016 as a way of getting around the ban on registration of vehicles with diesel engines of capacity 2000 cc and above.
Variant | Claimed Overall Fuel Efficiency |
2.2 L mHawk Diesel | 15 to 17 KMPL |
There could be a slight change in the fuel efficiency figures of the Scorpio seeing as the 2.2 L unit powering it will make more power. Intelli Hybrid variants may not continue as GST places hybrids in the 43% tax bracket. No incentives could push Mahindra to pull the plug on mild hybrid tech for the SUV. However, work on the development of this technology will continue for export markets.
Based on the camouflaged test units that were spotted in June, the 2017 Scorpio will get updates to the nose. From the looks of it, the new model will retain the same dual projector headlamps along with the LED eyebrows. It will feature a new grille with chrome inserts similar in design to the Mahindra Imperio, as well as restyled bumper with horizontal slats for the intake. The rear end carried minimal camouflage indicating only minor updates like new tail light graphics, reprofiled rear bumper, and new reflector strips. While the test mules had steel rims, expect the production spec model to wear new 16 inch alloys.
Details on the interior changes are scarce, but we expect the new 2017 Mahindra Scorpio to get a new colour theme, upholstery, and trim. In terms of features, it is likely to gain the XUV500’s 7 inch touchscreen system complete with Android Auto, EcoSense and Connected Apps. Currently, the Scorpio gets two jump seats behind the second row.

Rumors of Mahindra’s plans to offer the Scorpio with an updated version of the Aisin 6 speed automatic transmission have been doing the rounds since August 2015. This Aisin unit has 6 gear ratios optimized to ensure that the engine uses the minimum amount of fuel. It also has a manual mode for those who might want to take control over the gear changes. According to reports that emerged in February 2016, Mahindra is currently working on introducing petrol variants of the Scorpio. Powering them will be a 2.2 L unit developed in conjunction with its South Korean subsidiary, SsangYong Motor Company.
