Yahama MT-15 Overview

Yahama MT-15 is a commute bike that is based on Yamaha’s MT Series. It is closely related to the YZF R15 V3.0. To be more specific, the MT-15 shares a large part of its underpinnings with the bigger YZF R15 V3.0. The design of the bike, on the other hand, is strongly influenced by another bike of the MT series - the Yamaha MT09.

Earlier this year, Yamaha has launched the 2021 version of the bike in Thailand with new colour schemes. Last year, in India, Yamaha also introduced a new programme allowing the buyers to customize their MT-15 with up to 11 colour schemes.

Yahama MT-15 Design

Yahama MT-15 looks like a mini version of the MT-9. Its sharp design definitely an eyeball-grabber on the city roads. It is currently available with three colour options, Metallic Black, Dark Matt Blue and vermillion Fluro White. The last option is considered the most appealing, and also has the highest price tag.

Yahama MT-15 Features

Yahama MT-15 gets LED lighting for the DRLs, headlamps and taillamp. The standard version only gets bulb indicators. However, it is possible for you to upgrade to LED indicators as an accessory. Motorists can read the information from the negative LED instrument cluster that sows gear position, mileage indicator, shift light. The existing version comes with a single-channel ABS for safety. However, Yamaha will soon introduce a dual-channel ABS version of the MT-15.

Yahama MT-15 Engine

Powering the MT-15 is a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that makes 18.5 PS at 10,000 rpm and 13.9 NM at 85,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission with an assist-and-slipper clutch. This engine was updated to meet the BSVI emission norms. Compared to the BSIV version, the updated engine is slightly less powerful.

Similar to the Yamaha YZF R15 v3, MT-15 receives Variable Valve Actuation which allows the engine to hit the peak performance at high revs without compromising the grunt at low and mid-range. Thanks to the radial tyre at the rear, the MT-15 can show a bit of its racing character. It also keeps the same deltabox frame with front conventional telescopic forks and rear monoshock unit. But the MT-15 misses out on the aluminium rear swingarm. Instead, it gets a steel box-type unit. The braking system stays unchanged with front and rear disc brakes. The BSVI Yamaha MT-15 also gets a radial tyre on the rear wheel.
