Toyota Agya is the name of a small hatchback sold by Toyota in several markets. It is currently not available in our market. Toyota Agya Introduction

Toyota Agya was born Daihatsu Ayla in 2012. In fact, it was designed and manufactured by Daihatsu, Toyota’s subsidy company. It was rebadged as the Toyota Agya later on. This small hatchback is targeted at customers from developing markets. It is currently on sale in Indonesia, South Africa, Latin America as well as the Caribbean. In other markets like the Philipines, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Vietnam, this hatchback goes under the name Toyota Wigo. Since its launch, the hatchback has undergone two facelifts in 2017 and 2020.

Toyota Agya Latest Updates

On the latest updates last year, the Toyota Agya was given a revised front bumper, redesigned taillights and side mirror. Moreover, there is also a set of refreshed 14-inch alloy wheels. Notably, the leaked patent images in India inherit some design features from the Agya like a hexagonal front grille with similar triangular fog lamp housings and sleek headlights. The overall silhouette and alloy wheels are also identical to the Toyota Agya. To the rear, the Agya features an upright tailgate, roof-mounted spoiler, L-shaped taillights, and chrome accents.

It should be noted that the TRD variant gets some special treatment including contrasting red accents for the body and TRD badging. In the Indonesian market, the Toyota Agya is on sale with various colour options including Red, Orange Metallic, Yellow, White, Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic and Black.

Toyota Agya Engine

About the engine, the Indonesia-spec model is offered with two engine options, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder VVT-I engine and a four-cylinder Dual VV-i 1.2-litre engine. The smaller unit is capable of churning out a top power of 67 PS and maximum torque of 89 Nm. The 1.2-litre unit, on the other hand, is good for 88 PS at 6,000 rpm and 108 Nm at 4,200 rpm. These engines are mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic gearbox.

Toyota Agya Features

Regarding the features, Toyota Agya gets a decent equipment list for a hatchback. It offers a touchscreen infotainment system, a control-mounted steering wheel, an engine start/stop button, and more. On the higher variants, there are retractable side mirrors, different 14-inch machined alloy wheels. In terms of safety, the Toyota Agya is fitted with dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, ABS with EBD.

Toyota Agya Launch in India

Toyota Agya has never been a part of Toyota's plan in our market. However, given that Toyota has filed the design patent of the Agya, it is not all impossible that the small hatchback will be launched in our market under a new form. Toyota has been open about its plan for making EV cars.  So, there is a good chance for the Agya to be launched here as an EV version.

In other developments, Toyota is about to launch the rebadged Maruti Ertiga. Another rebadged model, the Toyota Ciaz is also under development. Earlier, the collaboration between Toyota and Maruti has resulted in the launch of Toyota Glanza and Toyota Urban Cruiser.

Toyota Agya Prices

In Indonesia, the Toyota Agya is on sale in three variants, 1.0 G, 1.2 G and 1.2 G TRD. The prices of the Agya starts from 148.8 million rupiahs (approx 7.6 lakh) and goes up to 169.29 million rupiahs (approx Rs 8.6 lakh). In the Philippines, the Toyota Agya is essentially the Toyota Wigo. In the Philippines, the starting price of the car is P568,000 for the entry-level model E 1.0 MT.
