Fresh spy shots of the 2020 Honda Jazz have surfaced online from Japan, giving the clearest look at its exterior and even interior so far. The next-gen model has been officially confirmed to debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show that will take place from 23 October to 4 November.

Like the second generation Honda Jazz, the fourth generation Honda Jazz will have a pure electric variant.

Honda tried making the Jazz bolder and more aggressive in the third generation, but with the next full model change, the plan is to take it back to the originals. The fourth generation model will have a cute, youthful design rather than being more being sportier and more mature. The mini-MPV-like silhouette will make it easily relatable to the third generation model currently on sale, though.

The spy shots show the next-gen Honda Jazz with a rakish windshield, a short bonnet, swept-back, curvaceous LED headlamps with LED DRLs and an upright radiator grille and horizontal tail lamps. Inside, it looks like there's a 7-inch driver information display similar to that of the all-new 2019 Honda Pilot. Circular knobs on the centre console and a large touchscreen infotainment system are also visible in one of the spy shots.

Takahiro Hachigo, President and Representative Director, Honda, confirmed this month that a new modular Honda Architecture will debut in a global model to be launched in 2020, and a possibility is that he was talking about the next-gen Honda Jazz. What we know for sure, from the press release divulging the world premiere information, is that there will be a hybrid variant using the company's i-MMD dual-motor technology. Expect a setup similar to the one found in the Honda Insight, a 1.5-litre petrol engine working together with two electric motors.

In addition to a new hybrid powertrain, the Honda Jazz is expected to get a conventional turbocharged petrol engine with the next lifecycle makeover, possibly the Honda Civic's 1.0-litre VTEC Turbo three-cylinder unit. A pure electric variant will make a comeback in the fourth generation, in the first half of 2020. This time, the range will be 300 km.

In the second and third generations, the Honda Jazz hasn't been a popular product in India. It remains to be seen if it will be present in our market in its fourth generation.
