In July 2018, it was reported that the current Maruti Ertiga, which will be replaced with an all-new model on 21 November, gets repositioned as a 'Tour' model to cater to the commercial segment. Now, however, Autocar reports that the first generation of the Swift-based MPV will be entirely discontinued.

The purported Maruti Ertiga Tour (Rendered) would have been a 'no-frills' model devoid of chrome appliques and body-coloured ORVMs and door handle.

It may be noted here that Maruti Suzuki continues to sell the second generation Dzire as Tour S to cab operators. The current generation Ertiga, which has sold over 4.18 lakh copies since its launch in April 2012, is a popular choice in the fleet business. As the second generation model is a more premium offering that will cost significantly more, the company could have repeated its strategy of shifting the outgoing car to the the 'Tour' family.

The Ertiga Tour would have been a 'no-frills' model, with only essential features like manual air con, front power windows, and ABS with a driver's side airbag.

Earlier this week, it came to light that the first batch of the 2018 Maruti Ertiga has started reaching dealership stockyards. The second generation of the company's popular MPV is based on the lightweight yet rigid Heartect platform, which underpins the Baleno, Swift, Dzire and Ignis. Its new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine comes from the 2018 Ciaz (facelift). The diesel engine is being carried over unchanged.
