The all-new Hyundai Santro is available with a factory-fitted CNG kit, and that’s as 'green' as it will get.
In a recent interview, The Economic Times asked Y K Koo, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India, if there’s a plan to electrify the all-new Santro. “We have no plans for an electric Santro,” Koo responded, confirming that the car will remain available with petrol and CNG power.
The 2019 Hyundai Santro is powered by a 1.1-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 69 PS at 5,500 rpm and 10.1 kg.m of torque at 4,500 rpm running on petrol. Running on CNG, this engine delivers 59 PS at 5,500 rpm and 8.6 kg.m of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, but a 5-speed Smart Auto AMT is available optionally. 20.3 km/l (petrol) and 30.48 km/kg (CNG) are the ARAI-certified fuel economy ratings.
Micro antenna, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink), voice recognition and iblue audio remote app support, rear AC vents and steering mounted audio & Bluetooth controls are some of the key features of the 2019 Hyundai Santro.
On the safety front, ABS with EBD and driver airbag are the only main safety features that are standard. Rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, impact sensing auto door unlock, speed sensing auto door lock, front passenger airbag, rear defogger, day and night IRVM and front fog lamps are available in the top-spec Asta grade.
