The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP are the company’s first performance-oriented cars for showrooms. Here are the main features that distinguish the JTP variants from the standard variants.

The Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor were indigenously developed, while their JTP variants were co-developed by JT Special Vehicles, a 50:50 JV between Tata Motors and Jayem Auto.

Engine

The biggest differentiator between the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor’s JTP and standard variants is the engine under the hood. The JTP variants sport a modified version of the Tata Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. Various enhancements made to the engine include optimised fuel map setting, specially designed intake system and tuned valve timing.

The 1.2-litre engine carries JTP branding in the performance variants, and it develops 114 PS at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm at 1,800-4,500 rpm.

Transmission

Like the standard variants, the JTP variants use a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the unit employed in the latter has a different gear ratio and final drive ratio.

Suspension

The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP have specially tuned suspension dampers for sportier handling. Their ground clearance is 166 mm, which is 4 mm lower compared to the standard cars (170 mm).

Tyres

The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP’s wheels are wrapped in wider, 185/60 tyres that offer improved grip on the road. For reference, the regular hatchback is available with 155/80 tyres, 175/65 tyres and 175/65 tyres depending on the configuration. 155/80, 175/65 and 175/60 are the tyre options available in the regular sedan.

Exhaust

Another exclusive of the JTP twins is the performance-oriented exhaust system. The twin-barrel unit not only looks sportier but also delivers an aurally pleasing note, which you can’t get out of the standard exhaust system of the regular cars.

Steering

The steering setup is different on the JTP offerings, so that they offer better handling than the regular cars, although the company hasn't revealed say how exactly.

Acceleration

The JTP hatchback and sedan are quicker than their regular counterparts. While we don’t have the exact numbers for the latter, the former’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time claimed by Tata Motors is 9.95 seconds (Tiago JTP)/10.38 seconds (Tigor JTP).

Exterior

The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP have a more dynamic exterior. At the front, they sport a more aggressive bumper, large trapezoidal lower air intake, JTP logo on the front grille, distinctive mesh pattern for both the grilles and a hood vent. For the JTP hatchback, the dual chambered projector headlamps with chrome rings is another exclusive, as this feature is unavailable in the standard variant.

Moving to the sides, the hatchback and sedan sport contrasting ORVM caps in red and black respectively. Other highlights include faux fender vents carrying JTP branding, 15-inch diamond-cut dual-tone wider 6.5J alloy wheels in an exclusive design and side skirts.

At the rear, the visual differences are a little different on both the JTP cars. The hatchback sports diffuser-style bumper with an integrated rear fog lamp, fully black roof spoiler and JTP logo on the tailgate. The sedan too a slightly different bumper design, and a black boot lid applique.

Interior

The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP (pictured) settle for the 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and so, the 7-inch unit remains exclusive to the new Tata Tigor. Also, notice the red highlights & stitching and the sport pedals.

The interior reflects the JTP cars’ dynamic nature with red accents on the air vents, leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, black fabric seat covers with a red hexagonal motif, red double stitching and JTP branding, red double stitching on the gearshift gaiter and aluminium pedals. The hatchback benefits from the 5-inch touchscreen infotainment by Harman as well, as that feature is unavailable in the standard variant.

Tata Motors will announce the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP’s prices at the launch in Coimbatore tomorrow. The expected ex-showroom pricing is INR 7 lakh for the hatchback and INR 8 lakh for the sedan.
