2019 BMW S1000RR spied ahead of EICMA 2018 Debut

While there is no official confirmation, the new 2019 BMW S1000RR could debut very soon. We expect to see the motorcycle at the 2018 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, which is scheduled to take place from 6-11 November 2018.

While we wait for an announcement from BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle (in fact four of them) were spotted at a gas station in Spain. As reported in September 2018, the styling of the bike was revealed through leaked design registration images. As seen in the leaked images, the 2019 BMW S1000RR will drop its famed asymmetrical fascia for a sleeker look. That said, the litre-class machine would retain its asymmetrical fairing recesses with a gill-like pattern on the right side and a single opening on the left.

Patent images revealed that the chassis might also feature minor revisions. The frame appears to have risen towards the rear engine mounting plates. The subframe will feature a new trellis design. The swingarm and the rear shock absorber, too, appear to have been changed.

Changes to the motorcycle will be more than just the visuals, and the 2019 S1000RR is expected to receive an updated engine. Leaked patent images revealed that the bike will continue to use an inline four-cylinder engine. The new motor is expected to produce more power compared to the one that propels the outgoing model. We could also see a variable valve timing that would be aimed to offer better mid-range power without compromising on the high-end output.

For reference, the current generation motorcycle draws 199 HP of power at 13,500 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 10,500 rpm from its 999cc in-line four-cylinder, DOHC, water/oil-cooled engine. The next generation model could get a marginal bump in the performance number. In comparison, the Kawasaki ZX-10R makes 210 PS of power (with RAM air) while the Ducati Panigale V4 makes 214 PS. It is speculated that the 2019 S1000RR will make about the same power as its rivals that have been mentioned above.

Rider aids are likely to get an upgrade too, and so will the instrument console. Modern-day motorcycles are featuring Bluetooth enabled instrument console for Smartphone connectivity. Smartphone integration gives access to the navigation, music and calls to the rider on the go.
