Honda Cars India has sold 17,600+ units of the earlier iterations of the CR-V.

The new Honda CR-V will be available with two options - 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel and 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol. The oil-burner has a maximum power of 120 PS @ 4,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 300 Nm @ 2,000 rpm. It comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The diesel variant will be available in 2WD and AWD formats. These have an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 19.5 kmpl and 18.3 kmpl respectively.

The petrol engine offers a maximum power of 154 PS @ 6,500 rpm and a peak torque 189 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. It comes mated to a CVT. It has an ARAI-tested fuel efficiency of 14.4 kmpl. The petrol variant will be offered in a 2WD configuration only. The fifth generation Honda CR-V is available with an optional 7-seat layout. That said, the extra row of seats will be offered on the diesel engine variants only. Manual transmission won't be provided owing to the low demand.

The new Honda CR-V is 4,592 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,689 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,660 mm and a ground clearance of 208 mm (AWD) and 198 mm (2WD). The diesel variant of the new model has a cargo space of 150 litres with all the three rows of seats in place. The luggage capacity can be boosted to 472 litres by folding the third row and to 936-litres by folding the second and the third row of seats. The petrol model offers 522 litres of boot capacity, which can be enhanced to 1084-litres by folding the second row.

With an average monthly sales figure of fewer than 19 units (March 2018 - August 2018), the current generation of the globally-acclaimed crossover has pretty much failed to impress Indians. The next-gen model, however, should find more buyers owing to its diesel engine and a more spacious cabin with an optional third row of seats. The new Honda CR-V should cost around INR 28 lakh (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale next month. It will be a direct rival to the Volkswagen Tiguan.
