Modified Hero Impulse by Race Concepts makes 21 bhp

The Hero MotoCorp Impulse was a near perfect package that was let down by the relatively low power output. The company pulled the plug on the dual-purpose motorcycle in 2016. Hero MotoCorp will soon offer the new Xpulse 200 that will pack a bigger engine and more firepower. However, if you already own an Impulse 150, folks at Race Concepts have something that may unlock new life in your steed.

Race Concepts has overhauled the existing engine to give the Impulse 150 the power that it deserves. The kit consists of a big bore kit, camshaft, CDI unit, performance carburettor, cylinder headwork, performance air filter and a free flow exhaust system. The upgrade is claimed to increase the output to 21 bhp.

For your reference, the motorcycle, in its stock tune, drew 13 bhp of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and 13.4 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm from its 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The motor was mated to a five-speed transmission.

Race Concepts shared photographs of two motorcycles with IAB. One of the motorcycles features a stock exhaust as the customer wanted the vehicle for everyday use. The second motorcycle features the full kit, including the exhaust. The aftermarket exhaust is slimmer than the stock unit and should give the bike a more appealing note. The aftermarket exhaust, similar to the stock unit, is tall-set to retain the water wading capabilities of the Impulse.

Rest of the hardware has been retained from the stock Hero Impulse, and thus the motorcycle features conventional telescopic front suspension and a monoshock unit at the rear. A 240mm disc at the front and a 110mm drum unit at the rear provide stopping power. The motorcycle continues to use the stock, wire-spoke wheels that are wrapped in dual purpose tyres. The fully kitted version features a shorter rear fender and custom pillion grab rail.
