The 2018 Audi A6, which made its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, has started testing in India. As per a report on Thrustzone, the eighth generation of the company's popular sedan is currently undergoing emission and fuel efficiency tests at ARAI, Pune.

The 2018 Audi A6 is seven millimetres longer, twelve millimetres wider, and two millimetres taller than its predecessor.

The eighth generation 2018 Audi A6 measures 4,939 mm in length, 1,886 mm in width and 1,457 mm in height. Compared to the last generation model, the new version is 7 mm longer, 12 mm wider and 2 mm taller. The new car's wheelbase, at 2,924 mm, is 12 mm longer. The increase in dimensions should help it face the heat from the Mercedes E-Class LWB, which will be one of its main adversaries in India.

While Audi is yet to announced the engine options for the India-spec A6, the new model is likely to be available with two 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engines - one TFSI petrol and one TDI diesel. The petrol motor outputs a maximum power of 340 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The oil-burner develops 286 PS and 620 Nm. While the former is mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission, the latter is paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic unit. Quattro AWD system is standard.

The 2018 Audi A6 follows the company’s latest design philosophy, which made its debut on the Prologue concept. The newest version of the company’s popular executive sedan looks modern and sophisticated. The highlight of its front-end is a bolder, wider hexagonal Singleframe grille that is flanked by flat HD Matrix LED headlights. The side profile is characterised by taut surfaces and crisp creases. At the rear, the tail lights and the bootlid look sharper. A chrome strip that runs between the tail lights emphasises the car’s width. The rear diffuser carries dual chrome-finished faux trapezoidal muffler tips.

On the inside, the 2018 Audi A6 offers a feature-laden cabin that is highly reminiscent of the Audi A7. The centre console features a 10.1-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system. An 8.6-inch display on the bottom offers climate controls and other functions.
