Certain media outlets have taken to calling the Mahindra-badged SsangYong Rexton as the Mahindra XUV700. The name is yet to be confirmed, however.

One of the test units is finished in the Fine Silver while the other one sports the Atlantic Blue shade. The latter was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo as well. Visually, these mules models are identical to the SsangYong Rexton sold in South Korea and globally. The silver Rexton gets badging on the bottom left side of the bootlid, while the Atlantic Blue exampled bears an additional badge on the bottom right corner as well.

In India, the Rexton will arrive wearing a Mahindra badge. Changes to the design will be restricted to a new grille. The cabin will also be carried over unchanged, save for Mahindra's insignia on the steering wheel. It will have a 7-seat configuration.

The Rexton for global markets comes listed with 2.2 L diesel and 2.2 L petrol engine options. The diesel powerplant makes 181 PS and 420 Nm paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol-engined Rexton has a max power output of 225 PS, and peak torque of 350 N. A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic are the transmission choices. Both variants are offered with part-time 4WD.

The front end of the Mahindra Rexton will feature a different grille, similar to the one seen on the unit that was displayed at the Auto Expo.

The Mahindra Rexton also referred to as Mahindra XUV700, will be aimed at the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. However, Mahindra will be keen on aggressively pricing its car to undercut the two main rivals. The upcoming Mahindra SUV is reported to go on sale this festive season and will be assembled in India at Mahindra's facility near Pune.
