The Maruti Ciaz is set to receive its first significant cosmetic update since its arrival in October 2014. The 2018 Maruti Ciaz (facelift) will be launched on August 6 and will reach dealerships by August 10 claims a new report from ZigWheels.

The bulk of the cosmetic updates are to the front end of the 2018 Maruti Ciaz.

Based on images shared last month, production of the new model is already underway at MSIL's facility in Haryana. Last month's sales figures of around 1,500 units, for a car that regularly does 3,000-4,000 units a month is an indicator of the fact that the older model's dispatches have stopped to make way for the 2018 Maruti Ciaz.

The front end of the Ciaz has gone under the scalpel. It features a narrower grille stretching between updated headlights which features black bezels, LED DRLs, and projector units likely to get LED illumination. The reprofiled bumper gains chrome appliques around the fog lamps. At the back, the tail lights get reworked graphics with LED detailing. The Maruti Ciaz Alpha will swap its 16-inch alloy wheels for new two-tone units.

Major changes aren't expected inside. Spy shots have, however, revealed use of a lighter shade of faux wood inserts, updated instrumentation, and the presence of cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. There are rumours of top-end trims gaining a sunroof as well.

Maruti will swap the current 1.4 L K14B petrol engine with a new 1.5 L K15B unit. This engine, that powers the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga and new Suzuki Jimny will have a power and torque output of around 105 PS and 138 Nm respectively. This engine swap will help bring the Ciaz closer to its rivals concerning performance. As reported in May, the engine will benefit from mild hybrid technology for higher mileage.

For now, the 1.3 L DDiS 200 diesel engine will be carried forward. In 2019, a new 1.5 L diesel engine developed by Suzuki will take its place. This new engine will be upgradable to BSVI regulations, unlike the Fiat-sourced 1.3 L unit that will be phased out by 2020.

The new petrol engine and additional features (top-end grades) are likely to warrant a price hike. The estimated starting price of the 2018 Maruti Ciaz will be around INR 8 lakhs (ex-showroom).
