With 9 out of 10 Maruti Ignis buyers opting for the petrol variant, the company has decided stop sales of the diesel variant.

The report cites a lack in demand for the Maruti Ignis diesel as the primary reason for the move. 90 % of Ignis buyers opted for the petrol variant with only 10 % going for the diesel. The split in sales in favour of the Ignis petrol has led to diesel Ignis being discontinued. The company is yet to make an official announcement regarding the same. The Maruti Ignis diesel continues to be listed on the website priced between INR 6.32 lakhs and INR 8.12 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi.

The Maruti Ignis diesel is powered by a 1.3 L DDiS engine good for 75 PS and 190 Nm. Buyers got to choose between a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT and three grades - Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. The Fiat sourced engine, that does duty on every other diesel offering from Maruti, the Tata Zest and Bolt, and the Fiat Grande Punto, Avventura, Urban Cross, and Linea is nearing the end of its life. It was set to be discontinued by 2020 once the new BSVI norms came into effect.

The hatchback will carry on with the 1.2 L K12B petrol engine. It develops 83 PS and 113 Nm and paired with either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. Maruti claims an overall fuel efficiency of 20.89 km/l. The manual transmission equipped Ignis is available in Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha grades. The Ignis AGS with the 5-speed AMT is offered only in the  Delta, Zeta, and Alpha grades. The Ignis AMT Alpha was introduced in August last year and was not available at the time of launch.
