The Mahindra S201’s interior looks nearly identical to that of the SsangYong Tivoli, the South Korean SUV from which it originates. The centre console, steering wheel, centre AC vents and instrument panel have the same design in the Indianised versioned.

The Mahindra S201’s interior features will include engine start-stop button, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control and steering wheel mounted controls. Mahindra may offer an electric sunroof also in its most modern small SUV. Safety features should include front and rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, ABS with EBD, 7 airbags, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes and ISOFIX child-seat anchorage points.

The SsangYong Tivoli measures 4.2 metres in length, but the Mahindra S201’s length will not exceed 4 metres. While the SsangYong Tivoli is powered by 1.6-litre engines, the Mahindra S201 will employ a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Because of the above-mentioned changes, it will attract the lowest GST in its segment* - 29% (petrol)/31% (diesel). Reports say that the 1.2-litre petrol engine will feature turbocharging and direct injection and that its maximum power will deliver around 140 hp. The interior spy shots confirm that Mahindra will offer a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Mahindra S201 will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata and Nexon. Its market launch will take place later this year, likely in the fourth quarter (October-December). Reports say that a 7-seat version of the Mahindra S201 will follow at a later stage.
