In April 2018, the Figo based crossover Ford Freestyle was launched. The CUV or Compact Utility Vehicle, as Ford calls it, has sold more units than fellow hatch based crossovers Hyundai i20 Active and Toyota Etios Cross according to a report by CarToq.

Ford Freestyle review side
With more than 3,000 units sold in May 2018, the Freestyle became the second best selling car for Ford during the period.

Sales data from May 2018 reveals that Ford shipped 3,027 units of the Freestyle during its first full month in the market. As per CarToq's report, the Hyundai i20 Active registered sales of 1,069 units while the Toyota Etios Cross could only manage 42 units. This means the Ford Freestyle managed twice as many units as its competitors combined. Traditionally, crossover hatchbacks have not been very popular in the market, but the Ford Freestyle seems to be bucking that trend.

Further, the Ford Freestyle was able to outsell the Mahindra KUV100 as well. The KUV100 sold only 1,481 units in May 2018.

The Ford Freestyle petrol is powered by a 1.2 L 3-cylinder engine producing 96 PS and 120 Nm paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel variant uses a 1.5 L 4-cylinder unit putting out 100 PS and 215 Nm paired, once again, with a 5-speed manual transmission. Both variants are offered in four grades - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, and Titanium+. Prices start INR 5.09 lakhs onwards for the base petrol variant and INR 6.09 lakhs for the base diesel.

Ford India sales in May stood at 9,069 units, up from 6,742 units over the same period last year. The Ford Freestyle certainly played a part in that growth. The Ford EcoSport continued to be the company's highest registering sales of 5,003 units. The compact SUV's lineup was expanded last month with the launch of the Ford EcoSport S and the Ford EcoSport Signature edition
