Based on spy shots, Julien Jodry from Auto Moto has created renderings to preview the 2019 Audi A1’s design in near-production guise prior to its world debut this year.

Moving to its second generation, the Audi A1 car line will lose its original 3-door version owing to poor demand. Last year, only 20.51% (19,541 units) out of the total sales (95,275 units) were of the 3-door version. Volkswagen Group has dumped the 3-door versions of the VW Polo and Seat Ibiza for the same reason.

Compared to its predecessor, the second generation Audi A1 (codename: Audi AU270) will look sharper and mature. Wedge-shaped headlamps, wider Singleframe grille, vertical air inlets, new alloy wheels and sleeker tail lamps are among the expected exterior changes.

Bigger than the current Audi A1, the next-gen Audi A1 will have a more spacious cabin enriched with the latest technologies Audi has to offer for its compact cars, including a virtual instrument cluster, wireless charging, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink and more. The addition of a number of new active safety systems is a given.

The all-new Audi A1 will share the MQB A0 platform with the VW Polo and Seat Ibiza. Engine options may include 1.0L TSI three-cylinder petrol, 1.5L TSI Evo four-cylinder petrol, 1.6L TDI four-cylinder diesel and 2.0L four-cylinder diesel units in different outputs. 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic are the expected transmission choices. While an AWD system is reserved to the Audi S1 currently, reports say that the standard Audi A1 will come with an AWD option in the second generation. Speaking of the S variant, the next-gen Audi S1 is said to sport a new 2.0L petrol engine that puts out up to 250 bhp.
