Second generation MINI Countryman to be launched in May 3 in India

BMW India has announced that the second generation MINI Countryman will be launched on May 3. It was unveiled in October 2016, and the all-new Countryman made its debut on Indian soil at the 2018 Auto Expo in February.

MINI will offer the Countryman in three variants - Cooper S, Cooper S JCW Inspired, and Cooper SD.

The second generation MINI Countryman is underpinned by the UKL FWD platform, which also underpins the BMW X1. It measures 4,299 mm in length, 1,822 mm in width and 1,557 mm in height. It has a 2,670 mm wheelbase. There is 350 litres of luggage space, expandable to 1,170 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The Indian-spec MINI Countryman will be available in three variants - Cooper S, Cooper SD, and Cooper S JCW. The Cooper S and Cooper S JCW are powered by a 1,998 cc 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 192 hp and 280 Nm. While the former gets an 8-speed Automatic Steptronic Transmission, the latter employs an 8-speed Sport Automatic Steptronic Transmission. The Cooper D variant uses a 1,995 cc 4-cylinder diesel engine developing 190 hp and 400 Nm paired to an 8-speed Automatic Steptronic Transmission. The MINI Countryman petrol can crack the tonne in 7.5 seconds while the diesel does it 7.7 seconds.

The MINI Countryman will be assembled at BMW India's facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Prices are expected to start at around INR 40 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will become the fifth addition to MINI's India lineup, which includes the Cooper 3-door, Cooper 5-door, Cooper Convertible, and Clubman.
