The Tata H5X test mule is missing production lights but rest the rest looks production ready. Tata Motors’ design chief Pratap Bose has said that 80-85% of the Tata H5X concept from Auto Expo 2018 is going into production. The C-SUV should measure around 4.58 metres in length, 1.96 metres in width and 1.69 in height and have a 2.74-metre wheelbase.

The Tata H5X will arrive as the first model designed using the IMPACT Design 2.0 design language and have strong proportions, clean, uncluttered surfacing, slim headlamps connected to the upper grille, the new signature Tri-Arrow pattern and large wheels in a segment-leading size. It will ride on the Jaguar Land Rover’s proven D8 platform.

Under the hood, the Tata H5X is expected to have FCA’s 140 hp 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine. Transmission choices may include 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic. A 4WD system is expected as an option. A 7-seat version codenamed Tata H7X will follow later, likely with the 170 hp 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine. It will compete with the Mahindra XUV500.
