2018 Hyundai Santro (Hyundai AH2) continues testing ahead of August launch

The Hyundai AH2 was recently spied in India yet again, courtesy AutoX. The new entry-level hatchback is expected to arrive as 2018 Hyundai Santro.According to a recent report, it will go on sale in August this year.

The Hyundai AH2 will ride on the first generation Hyundai i10's platform.

The company has remained tight-lipped about details related to the upcoming hatchback. However, MD & CEO of HMIL, Y K Koo had revealed last year that it would be a “contemporary family-oriented product”, “bigger and wider” than the previous car referencing the Santro. It will ride on the first generation Hyundai i10's platform. Compared to the old Hyundai i10, it will have a 10-15 mm wider and 10 mm higher body.

The Hyundai AH2 will employ a revised version of the Hyundai i10's 1.1-litre iRDE2 four-cylinder petrol engine producing around 70 bhp and 100 Nm of torque. Aside from a 5-speed manual transmission, buyers will have a 5-speed AMT option. The main features may include a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system and a standard driver-side airbag.

While Hyundai is likely to position the AH2 between the Eon and Grand i10. Prices are expected to start at just under INR 3 lakh (ex-showroom). The new entry-level hatchback from Hyundai will compete with the likes of Maruti Celerio, Tata Tiago, and Renault Kwid 1.0.
